HPDL Committees

Building Community
The Building Community Committee sponsers and hosts events for our neighborhood residents to enjoy. Examples include Picnic in the Park, Frost Fest, and Clean Sweep. This Committee also works with Block Contacts to distribute information about happenings in HPDL.

Business Association
The Business Association Committee is composed of home-based or storefront business owners who work on strengthening the HPDL business community. Recent projects include the design of a new website, a treasure hunt, and participation in the South Minneapolis Small Business Expo.

Commercial Development
This committee maintains oversight of the HPDL commercial development matching grant program. Grants are available through this committee for up to $5000 for business or commercial property owners looking to make "curbside appeal" improvements. Following review by this committee, grant applications are forwarded for final approval to both the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.

Crime and Safety
This group has maintained a focus on proactive crime prevention within the boundries of HPDL. The manage the Walk Patrol, a citizen patrol group, and the Bike Patrol, a program in partnership with the Minneapolis Police Department funded through NRP dollars. The committee regularly hosts meetings with representatives from Minneapolis 3rd Precinct and helps to maintain the CCP/SAFE program in our neighborhood.

Environment
The aim of the environment committee is to provide information and guidance to people and parties who are interested in environmental stewardship in our community. The committee annually sponsors an Earth Day event where volunteers from around the neighborhood join forces to clean up around Diamond Lake and Minnehaha Creek. Other recent happenings include a cooperative study with the Blue Water Commission, a buckthorn removal project around Diamond Lake, the annual Neighborhood Clean Sweep event, and education around junk mail reduction.

Finance
This group oversees the annual committee and operating budgets, requests committee budget proposals, works with NRP and MCDA to amend contracts, and oversees monthly accounting procedures. The finance committee also reviews any expenditure exceeding $500. The chairperson of this committee is the Treasurer of the Board.

Gardening
Members of this committee maintain two beautiful community gardens. The first is located at the junction of Bloomington Ave and Minnehaha Parkway. The second, larger, location can be found at the intersection of Hampshire Ave and Diamond Lake Road, near Pearl Park.

Housing
The housing committee is responsible for the guidelines surrounding allocation of NRP housing improvement funds. Recently this committee helped present the annual South Minneapolis Housing and Home Improvement Fair along with several other local businesses and neighborhood groups. Another current project is looking into the feasibility of adding senior housing in HPDL.

Newsletter
The newsletter committee is responsible for planning, editing, and publishing the quarterly HPDL newsletter. The group solicits and drafts articles, takes photos, and coordinates the layout of each issue, and also works with our printing vendor and the post office to print and distribute copies to each household in our neighborhood.

NRP Phase II
This committee is responsible for coordinating efforts around the NRP Phase II planning. Most recently, this group conducted a neighborhood survey to look at what residents feel should be addressed as part of the second phase of NRP. Results from this survey are in the process of being compiled, and will be used to drive the formal planning aspect of the NRP project.

Personnel
This committee is responsible for the hiring of staff, personnel policies, and payroll. The chairperson of the personnel committee is the Vice Chairperson of the Board.

Technology

Transportation
The Transportation Committee has expanded beyond just airport issues and will now become a neighborhood resource regarding all modes of transportation. The goal of the committee will be to educate neighbors on all transportation issues the affect HPDL and to get them involved in the planning / decision making process. This approach will make sure HPDL’s concerns are heard by all the politicians and agencies involved in the process.
